Tequila: The New "It" Drink for Grown Women

I never thought I'd say this, but tequila has become my go-to drink. And I'm not talking about the college-days kind of tequila, the one that you used to toss back with a grimace, chased by lime and salt. No, this is a new era, and tequila has grown up just like we have.

As a woman in my 40's, I know what I want. I've lived through enough trends, from wine coolers in the 90s to the rise of craft beer, and let's not forget the era of overly sweet cocktails. But tequila? It's different. It's sophisticated, versatile, and dare I say it-sexy.

For those of us who have lived a little, tequila offers something unique. It's not just a drink; it's an experience. Whether you're sipping a smooth reposado on the rocks or enjoying a spicy margarita, tequila has a way of making you feel empowered. Maybe it's because tequila, when done right, doesn't hide behind mixers or frills. It's bold, straightforward, and unapologetically itself-much like the women I admire and strive to be.

But why is tequila suddenly the "it" drink? For starters, it's all about quality. The rise of premium tequilas means you can actually enjoy the flavour without wincing. Brands are focusing on craftsmanship, using 100% blue agave and taking their time with the aging process. The result is a spirit that's complex, smooth, and perfect for sipping.

Then there's the versatility. Tequila isn't just for margaritas anymore (though a well-made margarita is a thing of beauty). You can enjoy it neat, on the rocks, or in a range of cocktails that highlight its unique flavours. Whether you're in the mood for something light and refreshing or deep and smoky, there's a tequila cocktail for that.

Let's not forget the wellness aspect. Many of us are more conscious about what we put into our bodies, and tequila fits into that lifestyle. It's low in calories, gluten-free, and made from natural ingredients. Some even say it has health benefits, though I won't go as far as calling it a health drink-it's still alcohol, after all. But compared to other spirits, it feels like a smarter choice.

Tequila also carries a bit of mystique and history, rooted in Mexican culture. It's a drink with a story, one that goes beyond the glass and connects you to a tradition. And as someone who appreciates a good story, that's part of the allure.

But maybe the real reason tequila is having its moment is that it matches where many of us are in life. At 40, I've shed the need to impress others or conform to what's expected. I appreciate quality over quantity, and I'm drawn to things that are authentic and full of character. Tequila, in its many forms, embodies that perfectly.

So, the next time you're out with your girlfriends, skip the sugary drinks and give tequila a try. Order it neat, savour the aroma, and take a sip. You might just find that it's the perfect drink for a woman who knows what she wants-someone just like you.
